Samsung TV Won't Turn On - Which Part Should You Replace?

You've probably been there... you hit the power button on your TV remote and nothing happens. You try a few more times to no avail. So, you try the power button on your Samsung TV and get the same result.

Before you throw your remote, we'll walk you through five, simple steps to properly diagnose your Samsung LED TV and see if it's fixable.

Step 1: Confirm the power cord is plugged-in to an outlet and securely connected to your TV.

Step 2: If the power cord isn't the issue, open the back of your TV. With the back open, a working TV will turn on and you'll see its backlights when all of the cables are connected, including the power cable and power supply to the main board.

Step 3: If the backlights don't come on or power cycle off and on, turn off your TV and disconnect the power cable from the power supply board. Then, disconnect the power supply from the main board (shown below) and reconnect the power cable to the power supply board. Turn the TV back on.

If the backlights don't come on, the power supply board and/or backlights are faulty and should be replaced. If the backlights do come on, you'll need to check the panel/screen.

Step 4: With your TV off, disconnect the power cable from the power supply board and reconnect the power supply board to the main board. Then, disconnect the LVDS ribbon cables from the panel (shown below). Reconnect the power cable to the power supply board and turn on the TV.

If the backlights come on and stay on, all of the circuit boards in your TV are working properly.

Step 5: Reconnect the ribbon cables. If your TV doesn't turn on or stay on, the LCD panel is shorted and the TV can't be fixed.
